Karen A. Chalmers, M.S., R.D., C.D.E.

Karen Chalmers is an Advanced Practice Diabetes Specialist in Nutrition and Insulin Pump Therapy at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.

Karen has been a nutrition and diabetes educator at the Joslin since l989.  She develops professional and corporate diabetes education programs, and provides group and individual nutrition and pump education.  Her clinical interests now focus primarily on intensive insulin therapy.

Karen is Past-Chair and Treasurer of the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.  She received the Nutrition Education Award from the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the American Dietetic Association’s Emerging Dietetic Leader Award from the State of Massachusetts.  

Karen has lectured nationally and internationally, and has written extensively for both health professionals and patients.  She is co-author of two books published by the American Diabetes Association, 16 Myths of a ‘Diabetic Diet,’ (2nd Edition in late 2007) and  ‘Smart Pumping’ (Edited by Howard Wolpert, MD) and was a contributing author to the recently published 14th Edition of Joslin’s Diabetes Mellitus in 2005.
