Type 1 Diabetes Study

This study is testing a drug called Abatacept, to try to interrupt the autoimmune attack that is present in people at the onset of type 1 diabetes, to see if they can continue to make some of their own insulin. 

Abatacept is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, another autoimmune disease. 

Eligible participants will receive intravenous study drug or placebo (no active medication) monthly for 2 years. 

Individuals between the ages of 6 and 45, and diagnosed within 100 days may be screened for eligibility. 

Physical exams and laboratory tests at no cost.
