C. Ronald Kahn, M.D., on NPR's "Science Friday"
C. Ronald Kahn, M.D., Vice Chairman of the Joslin Board at Joslin Diabetes Center, was interviewed on NPR's "Science Friday," where he discussed current research in diabetes. Two research groups reported progress in treating diabetes in mice. Researchers in France say apelin, a naturally occuring hormone put out by fat cells found in both mice and humans, can lower blood glucose in mice. In another study, researchers made a synthetic protein modeled after a common ingredient found in red wine, resveratrol. When they injected mice with the protein, they found it warded off weight gain, improved exercise endurance and lowered insulin resistance in mice.
