Our Program

Our summer camp program is for boys and young men ages 7 to 16½.  In all age groups, children participate in age-appropriate activities that are specifically designed so that all of our campers can have a blast and learn more about successfully living with diabetes.

At Camp Joslin we strongly believe that simply having diabetes should not hold anyone back from having fun and pursuing their dreams.  Our activities strongly reflect this belief and challenge our campers to do their best and enjoy life to the fullest.  Here, kids will meet new friends, participate in new activities, and learn new skills.

Kids learn by doing, and at Camp Joslin they learn to live with diabetes by living to life's fullest.  A  JBA (Joslin Basketball Association) basketball game is a chance to challenge friends, challenge yourself, and to learn how to control blood glucose levels during exercise. Every meal is also an informal lesson on balancing food intake with an insulin regimen. With our counselors and healthcare team members by their side, campers process their experiences and learn the lessons necessary for a long and full life with the disease.

Our staff is comprised of Joslin-trained counselors, nurses, dietitians, and physicians.  Depending on the session, our staff-to-camper ratio ranges between 1:2 to 1:3.  Many of these positive role models on our staff also have diabetes themselves and have great life experiences to share.

Financial Aid

Camp Joslin is proud to have never turned away a child for financial reasons.  Thanks to the generosity of many individuals, foundations and corporations, financial aid is available in the form of camperships.  Families are urged to apply.

Details

Summer Camp is held at our 380 acre campsite in Charlton, Mass., and is divided into several two- and one-week sessions.   Please check the schedule posted above for 2007 dates.  All sessions fill up quickly, so register early!

We are fortunate to be located only three miles from another one of the country's premier camps for children with diabetes, the Clara Barton Camp.  Together we collaborate to offer more dynamic programming for kids and often share resources, best practices, and, the weekly dance.  We appreciate and respect the wonderful programs they run for girls and young women with diabetes.
