Monday, April 02, 2012

Danielle Handler, a junior at Newton North High School, is the 2012 Joslin Youth Ambassador.

“I’m excited to help Joslin Diabetes Center by reaching out to youth of all ages and raising awareness of the role that Joslin is playing in the treatment and cure of Type 1 diabetes,” said Danielle, of her new role.

Danielle isn’t new to the diabetes community. She has been a patient at Joslin for nine years. “I am so fortunate to receive extraordinary care and support from Joslin’s doctors, nurse educators, and staff,” she said.

She has also spent five summers at the Barton Center for Diabetes Education, four as a camper and one as a Leader-In-Training. She’ll continue working with the camp this summer as a Second Year Counselor-In-Training. Danielle is also a Youth Leader for the American Diabetes Association.

In addition to her involvement in diabetes outreach, Danielle is active in her school and community. She has been a member of the varsity tennis team, cross-country ski team, and the cross-country running team, and she participates in the Microcredits Club and Athletes Serving the Community.

Danielle began her duties as Joslin’s Youth Ambassador at 2011’s High Hopes Gala, and will continue to reach out to the children and teens of the type 1 community throughout the coming year.
