Professional Education
Continuing Education for Allied Health Professionals
The Allied Health professional is now the primary provider of diabetes education for people with diabetes. They provide continuing support and advice on blood glucose and A1C monitoring, medication management, acute complication management, chronic complication prevention and management, psychosocial assessment and issues, meal planning, nutrition management and exercise.
Educating allied health professionals about current treatment practices in diabetes care is vital to promote early detection, improve treatment, and prevent the onset of diabetes. Joslin Diabetes Center Professional Education Department’s allied health programs present material in a practical, relevant manner, incorporating a variety of teaching techniques, translating the latest academic trends into practical clinical parameters for allied health professionals.
The allied health education programs focus on issues ranging from current treatment practices in diabetes care and education to caring for populations with special diabetes needs, addressing such concerns as women’s health and the aging population. The programs, designed to elucidate complex issues and enhance the clinician’s skills, strive to convey information in a wide array of subjects, including:
- Enhancing the effectiveness of patient education
- How-to and why of monitoring
- Principles of insulin use
- Reproductive health issues in women with diabetes
