Joslin Diabetes Center Names Boston Executive Kevin Conley Chairman of the Board

BOSTON — November 15, 2004 — Kevin E. Conley, President & CEO of Conley & Company, has been named chairman of Joslin Diabetes Center’s Board of Trustees. Conley succeeds Robert E. Patterson, Senior Partner of Cabot Properties, L.P., and Chairman of Cabot’s Investment Committee, who stepped down after nine years as Chairman, but will continue to serve as Chairman Emeritus and as a Trustee.

Conley joined Joslin’s Board in 2001, but has been heavily involved with the institution for more than seven years, demonstrating his commitment and support of Joslin in myriad ways. In addition to his family’s time and financial contributions, Conley’s business, Conley & Company, a Boston-based executive recruitment firm, announced in 2002 that it would donate 25 percent of its net income to diabetes research.

“I believe a cure for diabetes is more than a possibility. It is a reality,” says Conley, a Weston, MA, resident. “Enough of the pieces of the puzzle have been put on the table for us to begin to find a cure. As the father of two young girls with type 1 diabetes, I believe the more I give today, the shorter the path to a cure.”

“Since the first day Kevin stepped through the doors of Joslin, he has been an invaluable asset to the Center,” said C. Ronald Kahn, M.D., Joslin’s President and Director. “Kevin embodies our vision of a world without diabetes and its complications. With his passion for Joslin’s mission and dedication to all we do at the Center, Kevin will raise the bar for Joslin Trustees, Overseers, donors and employees—pushing us to reach our ultimate goal. I have no doubt he will provide outstanding leadership for years ahead.”

Conley is founder, president and chief executive officer of Conley & Company, one of the largest executive recruiting firms based in Boston, which he formed in 2001. Conley & Company specializes in the financial services, industrial, technology and professional services industries. A native of Winchester, Mass., Conley earned his bachelor’s degree in economics at Yale University.

Outgoing Chairman Robert Patterson has supported Joslin in countless ways for two decades. Most notably, he has served as an Overseer since 1985, a Trustee since 1986 and Chairman of Joslin’s Board since 1995; he also chaired the Center’s last major capital campaign. During his tenure as Chairman, major renovations to Joslin’s flagship building were completed, the Center’s research and clinical care divisions grew significantly and Joslin saw its two strongest fundraising years.

“Bob has given an enormous amount of personal time and energy to Joslin during his tenure of dedicated leadership,” says Dr. Kahn. “He has been an effective and respected partner in our fight against diabetes. We’re pleased he will continue to work with us as a Joslin Trustee.”

“It has been an exciting and challenging run as chairman, and very satisfying to be involved with such wonderful people at all levels at Joslin,” said Patterson. “We’re lucky indeed to have a man of Kevin’s energy, ideas and enthusiasm to lead us from here.”
