Classes for Caregivers of Young Children
Caring for Children with Diabetes
This 2 hour class will give an introduction to diabetes and how it is managed in children, with an emphasis on young children. Topics include diabetes basics: blood glucose monitoring, the impact of insulin, food, and physical activity on diabetes management, and ways to provide the best care for youth. This class is suitable for grandparents, daycare personnel, nannies, friends & family, etc.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this class, the participant will be able to:
- State what diabetes is
- List the signs and symptoms; causes and treatments of childhood diabetes
- Describe how food impacts diabetes management
- Describe how physical activity impacts diabetes management
- Discuss how to best care for children with diabetes
- Identify ways to normalize diabetes in the setting of childhood
The format of this class will be lecture, discussion, and Q&A
This class WILL NOT teach hands-on diabetes management techniques
Certificate of attendance for 2 contact hours will be distributed
