Nutrition and Diabetes Advanced Practice Professional Program
The Advanced Practice Program at the Joslin Diabetes Center is an exciting opportunity to acquire a better understanding of the dietitian’s unique role in the management of patients with diabetes, a disease that is altering the healthcare landscape.
The experience you’ll gain from learning at Joslin is unmatched, and can be easily implemented at your home institution.
Participants in the Advanced Practice Program will be able to work with diabetes educators in the fields of nutrition, exercise physiology, and nursing. You’ll also be able to observe doctors and nurse practitioners in both adult and pediatric settings.

Patient-centered philosophy of care
Joslin’s approach to diabetes care is simple: put the patient first. Through the Advanced Practice Program, you’ll learn to incorporate this philosophy into your patient care routine.
Are you short on time and want an overview of Joslin’s approach with a personalized touch or do you need a more in-depth experience? We offer both.
Our one week experience will give you the ability to see our staff interact with patients in individual appointments as well as group classes. You will work with nutrition, exercise physiology and nursing, learning hands on practical medical and nutritional therapy for type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
The nutrition staff will guide you through application of basic and advanced carbohydrate counting with basic insulin adjustment for food and exercise. Through use of discussion, case studies and patient cases, one of our nutrition experts will be your guide to the Joslin experience for the week.
Our three-week program gives you the ultimate in a personalize immersion in the latest in diabetes therapy. In addition to the experiences above, you will have the opportunity to observe our pump and continuous glucose monitoring programs in action; work with the devices and tools used in blood glucose management; as well as select from a menu of our specialty clinics to attend.
One week of your experience will be spent in one of the Joslin specialty programs. These are intensive training programs using a multidisciplinary approach, including physicians, nurses, psychologists, dietitians and exercise physiologists. Each day of the program you will round with the team on each of the participants.
One week experience: $1500.00
Three week experience: $4000.00
Foreign applicants and registered dietitians are encouraged to apply. Applicants from outside the U.S. must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in nutrition to participate.
