Pediatric Laboratory

No one of any age likes to have blood work done. But we’ve tried to make our laboratory as welcoming as possible. A soothing sky scene is painted on the wall. And when your child sits down to have blood drawn, it’s in a comfortable chair that’s extra wide so a parent can sit there too.

Having blood drawn is a fact of life for someone with diabetes. It’s probably going to be necessary at least three to four times a year. But each time your child will see the same pediatric phlebotomist, a technician who draws blood and specializes in young patients.

A Not-so-Scary Place

Our supplies are all child-sized. If requested, we offer a topical anesthetic that can numb the area where blood will be drawn. We also have child life specialists available to provide distraction and coping techniques for those with extra anxiety.

Contact Information

The Pediatric Laboratory is located right in the Pediatric and Adolescent Unit of Joslin Clinic, so you don’t have to leave the area to get here. Our hours are the same as the clinic: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
