Summer Magic Casts a Spell for Families at Joslin

Children and their families came out to Joslin earlier this month for the Pediatric Clinic’s fifth annual Summer Magic event. The children participated in crafts, played limbo and bean-bag toss, enjoyed a picnic dinner and saw a magic show.
“The Summer Magic Event is a nice way for families to get together and meet other families affected by diabetes,” said Elizabeth Heim, child life specialist and co-organizer of the event along with Micaela Francis, also a child life specialist.
The magic show, held in the third-floor auditorium, was a mix of fun jokes, clever tricks and lots of audience involvement. More than 60 pediatric patients and family members came, and even some of Joslin’s own employees caught the show.
“Many of the families that attended said it was a great event and that the magician was the best they have seen yet,” Francis said.
Pediatrics holds many events for the patients and families of Joslin throughout the year. Those include Teddy Bear Clinic, Summer Magic, Fenway Tours for Pre-Teen and Teens, and the Halloween Party.
