How You Can Help Conquer Diabetes In All Its Forms

You can help Joslin Diabetes Center in the battle to find new ways to treat this disease and its complications and ultimately find a cure.

Participate in Clinical Research

One way to help is to become a research volunteer. Research volunteers at Joslin in Boston play a critical role in helping to advance the treatment and understanding of diabetes and its complications.

To learn more about the nature of diabetes and related metabolic disorders, our researchers recruit patients for “clinical trials,” studies that test the effectiveness of new drugs, devices or other treatments that may be approved for general use. Individuals participating in any research study must meet certain study requirements and be willing to sign an informed consent, a form that indicates voluntary agreement of the person (or responsible proxy) to participate in the study after being informed of the methods, procedures, risks and benefits that will result by participating. Consent must be given freely and without undue influence. Participants have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without losing any of the benefits due to them as a patient at Joslin.

In some cases, research studies are being conducted by Joslin Affiliates in other parts of the country that may be nearer to where you live—enabling those who do not live in the Boston area to participate in our efforts to conquer diabetes. Click here for a complete list of Joslin Affiliated Centers, or call 617-732-2400. For a complete list of current research studies at Joslin in Boston, visit our Web site at, or call (617) 732-2400.

Donate to Research

Another very important way you can support our research efforts is by making donations to fund general research purposes or to support a particular area of research that interests you. This research report provides a wealth of information about the types of research conducted at Joslin. Each year, millions of dollars in charitable contributions help fund these research efforts. Without these donations, we could not conduct such wide-ranging scientific activities.

Charitable gifts can be made as outright contributions, or through gifts of stock or life insurance, or through planned gifts, such as leaving Joslin in your will or establishing a trust in which Joslin is a beneficiary. To make a gift to Joslin’s research effort, or for more information about how to make a gift to the Center, please contact our Development Office at (617) 732-2412.
