To Our Joslin Community:

I am writing to acknowledge the incredible suffering our country and our communities are experiencing right now. The invisible threat of a viral pandemic has been compounded by an increasingly visible pandemic of longstanding and unacceptable social injustice.

Social Justice is defined as the way in which human rights are manifested in the everyday lives of people at every level of society.

Let us be clear.

Joslin supports the quest for social justice and rejects racism, whether overt or covert.

Joslin supports human rights and rejects discrimination in any form, especially in the delivery of health care.

It is a source of pride and strength that Joslin’s patients and colleagues represent diverse backgrounds and we recognize many have personally experienced the negative impact of systemic racism and social injustice. We are committed to actively supporting them. We will continue to encourage open discussion to foster greater understanding, achieve social justice and celebrate our differences as we continue to work towards a more just future.

At Joslin, we thrive on our shared humanity and our respect for each other and those we serve.

Yours sincerely,

Roberta Herman, MD
