Find a Diabetes Educator

What is Diabetes Education

Diabetes Education is also known as diabetes self-management training (DSMT) or diabetes self-management education (DSME).

The goal of education is for people with or at risk for diabetes to gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify their behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions.

Diabetes education can take place in a group or one-on-one setting as part of an accredited education program.

Who is a Diabetes Educator?

Joslin educators are experts in diabetes management and education and can assist patients with all aspects of their diabetes care.

All Joslin educators either currently have or are working toward their credential as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).

A CDE is a health professional who possesses comprehensive knowledge of and experience in diabetes management, pre-diabetes, and diabetes prevention.

A CDE educates, supports, and promotes self-management to achieve individualized goals that maximize health management.

Joslin's nationally certified diabetes educators include diabetes nurse educators, registered dietitians and exercise physiologists.
