The William P. Beetham Eye Institute

"With proper diabetes management and eye care, we can essentially eliminate the fear of severe vision loss, a major concern with diabetes. For the past 18,000 patients in our care, the median vision was 20/20.”

If you have diabetes (either type 1 or type 2), it is essential to have an eye exam at least every year by an eye doctor with expertise in diabetes eye care.“ More than half of patients who are in danger of vision loss don’t realize anything is wrong,” says Lloyd Paul Aiello, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Beetham Eye Institute at Joslin Diabetes Center. “By the time symptoms emerge, although there still are treatment options, treatment can be less effective than if started earlier. It’s always preferable to find and treat problems early.”

Joslin’s Beetham Eye Institute is one of the finest facilities for diabetes eye care in the world.

Our caring staff of ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, medical assistants, image specialists, study coordinators and researchers is dedicated to preserving your vision using its unique expertise gained from 100 years of leadership in the field of diabetes eye care.
