First Steps Program

Joslin's First Steps Program

The Joslin's First Steps ProgramTM was created for healthcare providers and educators to use with their patients who have diabetes, the Program includes two Flipcharts, a Leader’s Guide; Joslin’s First Steps Booklet and five First Steps Handouts. The individual components can be purchased separately or as a package.

The Flipcharts provide a wealth of information about diabetes care and management. Colorful graphics on the patient-facing pages cover topics such as monitoring, key tests, diabetes medicines, nutrition, physical activity and reducing risks.  The provider-facing page offers helpful talking points and clinical information.

The Flipcharts are designed to be very versatile. There are two Flipcharts. Flipchart I contains Part 1 – The Basics of Managing DiabetesFlipchart II contains Part 2 – Nutrition and Activity and Part 3 – Medicines, Monitoring and Reducing Risks. Each Part can be used in its entirety as the framework for a “class” that would take about 1.5-2 hours.
Click here for more detailed information on the Flipcharts.

The Leader’s Guide contains detailed curricula or lesson plans and also provides valuable information  about how to use them to obtain recognition for having a quality diabetes education program so that your programs eligible for reimbursement. The Leader’s Guide is the same regardless of which Flipchart(s) you have. Each Flipchart is designed to stand on its own.
