Joslin's Meal Planning Guide

We are delighted to introduce this new meal planning tool, developed with input from dietitians, diabetes educators, and patients from both the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston and Joslin Affiliates nationwide. This colorful, 4-page Guide can be used by a dietitian as a part of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), as well as by all diabetes educators when teaching about general nutrition as part of diabetes self-management education (DSME).

Joslin's Meal Planning Guide is appropriate for use with people who have type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes, and for those with all levels of nutritional knowledge – basic or more advanced.  It contains food lists for carbohydrate, protein and fat foods to help illustrate healthful choices and control portions.  Each section includes the approximate number of calories and grams of carb, protein and fat per serving, along with sample food choices.

The Guide also includes more in-depth meal planning information, such as how many carb choices should be selected per meal, label reading and a portion guide.  It can be used to help patients create their own specific meal planning goals as well.

Additionally, supplemental sheets are available to be used as needed: a meal plan template for individualizing meal plans, a snack list, a vegetarian food choice list, and a Latino food choice list (in English and Spanish).

This Guide comes with the meal plan template and can be purchased in packs of 25 for $22.50.

Inserts can be purchased additionally in packs of 25:
