Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick Signs Historic Life Sciences Bill at Joslin Diabetes Center
BOSTON - June 16, 2008 - Today, Joslin Diabetes Center hosted Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, legislative leaders and other distinguished guests for the signing of the historic Life Sciences Law , a $1 billion, 10-year initiative.
Many of the state’s academic, medical, biotech and political leadership were here to take part, including House Speaker Sal DiMasi, Senator Jack Hart and Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Craig Mello. Twenty of Joslin’s own pediatric patients and their siblings gathered around the Governor as he signed the bill. One of Joslin's young patients, who has type 1 diabetes, spoke to the assembled guests, doing a wonderful job representing all people with diseases who will benefit from this legislation.
