DO IT

The DO IT Program (Diabetes Outpatient Intensive Treatment) at Joslin Diabetes Center helps patients tune up their diabetes management skills - so they can get back on track to better health.

Diabetes Technology Programs

Today many people with diabetes rely on insulin pumps or continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) to keep their diabetes in check. That's why Joslin offers comprehensive diabetes technology programs that can help you learn to use this technology on a daily basis.

Diabetes Education- Assessment

Comprehensive 60 minute individual session that includes an evaluation of self-care behaviors: problem-solving, managing hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia and the ability to self-manage blood glucose and insulin dosing on a day to day basis.

Diabetes Technology: Is It For You?

This 90 minute session is intended for those interested in wearing an insulin pump or a CGM device. Discussions includes pump and CGM options and features, how the pump and or CGM work, the benefits, risks and costs. The patient then purchases the device of their choice. Once you receive your initiate pump and or CGM Joslin educators work with you to learn how your device works best for your needs.

Foundations of Pump Therapy

This is a small-group workshop around 2 hours for individuals who have started wearing their pump with saline to prepare for insulin initiation. Topics include how to wear the pump, pump mechanics, caring for infusion sites and how to detect and resolve pump problems.

Pump Therapy-Insulin Initiation

Patients return a week after wearing the insulin pump and start insulin therapy. This maybe a group class around 90 minutes or an individual 60 minutes. This appointment may cover CGM training if applicable and includes tips and techniques on how to manage and troubleshoot an insulin pump and how to upload blood glucose data that can be shared.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Information Session

Classes include a CGM only appointment or a CGM and Pump training session and covers what what to expect from CGM and available devices and features.

CGM Training and Optimization

These are small group session or an hour individual session that helps you with device specific basics including sensor insertion, alarms, calibration as well as CGM data, downloading your CGM device and setting up goals.

Diabetes Education

Meet with a diabetes educator to learn how you and your family can learn to live well with any type of diabetes, regardless of the duration.

Medical Nutrition Therapy

A Registered Dietitian (RD) will work with you to create an individualized meal plan for a variety of nutrition concerns in addition to diabetes.

Exercise Physiology

An Exercise Physiologist (EP) will work with you to create a safe individualized exercise plan in addition to manage your glucose while exercising.
